ESCAPE FROM PARIS ARREST LIFE WITHOUT ELECTRICITY, WATER AND ALWAYS HUNGRY AROUND 20 FAMILY MEMBERS WERE MURDERED RETURN MIGRATION

July 1942 left paris for Vichy France

Arrested in Ribérac after crossing the demarcation line

Handed over to French authorities

Not arrested but had to stay in the area

Family moved to a tiny flat in the village le got/no electricity, no running water/constantly hungry

Younger brother was born while they were living in hiding

About 20 extended family members were deported to and killed in Sobibor and Auschwitz

November 1944 back to the old flat in newly liberated Paris

Jacqueline Mendels Birn died in 2019 in Washington, D.C.
