1940: Italy invaded Greece

Family fled to the mountains

Lived in hiding, sheltered by strangers

1941: German invasion

The persecution and murder of Greek Jews began

Family managed to stay together in hiding for two years

Separated as it became too dangerous

Yolanda started to move from one rescuer family to another, assuming new identities each time

Parents and brother also survived the war years

Moved to the United States as a Fulbright scholar

Has written a book about her childhood experience
