1939 German invasion

1940 Family was forced into Łódź ghetto

Father starved there to death

Deportation to Auschwitz, where his mother and he survived selection

Spent eight days in Auschwitz and doubts to have survived longer there

Ten days before the Red Army liberated Auschwitz, he was sent on a death march to Mauthausen

After the war, he took a train to Łódź to find his family – nothing was left

Smuggled himself back to the American zone, bribing Soviet soldiers and walking all night

1948 Immigration to the U.S.

Still does not know what happened to his mother and six sisters
