VILNA / POLAND 1921

NAZI ARMY SEIZED VILNA. INTERNMENT IN GHETTO. HE ESCAPED TWICE. FAMILY WAS MURDERED. BECAME A PARTISAN. EMIGRATION.

His mother had grown up in the United States.

In June 1941 the Nazi Army seized the city of Vilna (now Vilnius / Lithuania).
Family was to stay in the ghetto.
Herman ran away twice.
His family was murdered only 3 days after his escape.

He became a partisan in the woods.
Hunger and cold.

1943: the partisan group was allowed into Russia.
Herman married and stayed until 1945.

1949: moved to the United States with his wife Anna and their first
child. Met his mother ́s family there.

Herman Snyder died in 2019.
