ZVOLEN / SLOVAKIA 1937

DEPORTATION OF HIS GRANDPARENTS. FATHER WAS PART OF SECRET RESCUE ORGANIZATION. FLED WITH MOTHER AND SISTER. MOTHER AND SISTER WERE KILLED. RESCUED. IN HIDING. LIBERATION. SECRET ALIYAH MISSION.

“I am born there and now i am here.”

In 1942, the slovak authorities deported his grandparents. They were murdered, most likely, at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Father was part of a secret jewish rescue organization.

1944: Fled with mother and sister to Banska Bystrica.

Father fled separately fled to the mountains and caught in a massacre at Stare Hory/his mother and sister were killed. Gideon was injured/slovak partisans rescued him. Placed him with the Strycharszyk family. Remained in hiding.

Liberation in 1945 by romanian troops. Reunited with his father.

Father died in 1946.

Came to Israel with his stepmother on a secret aliyah mission.

1975: Imigration to the United States.
