ALFRED MÜNZER

THE HAGUE / THE NETHERLANDS 1941

IN HIDING. DEPORTATION OF PARENTS. STAYED WITH HIS NANNY. SISTERS WERE DENOUNCED.

The family was forced into hiding in 1942. Parents hid in a hospital, two older sisters were placed with a neighbor’s friend. Alfred was taken by a dutch-indonesian family and their indonesian nanny.

The parents were deported to concentration camps. Sisters were denounced and deported to Auschwitz where they were killed three days later. Alfred was cared for by the Madna family until the liberation by canadian forces.

“My earliest memory is of the day i was reunited with my mother and refused to sit on her lap. The first time i came face to face with my father was when i visited his grave in Ebensee concentration camp.”
